How Do Neck Lift Surgeries Work?

A neck lift is something that many people look into as they get older and gravity seems to mercilessly take hold of their skin. It can make you look a lot younger and it can even make you look thinner as well. It is also a surgery that doesn’t leave that much change on your face – people will not really be able to tell that you have had your neck surgically altered unless they knew you and what you looked like before the surgery. Also, if you lose a lot of weight suddenly, the skin on your neck will have to do a lot of catching up, and usually you will be left with hanging skin on your neck that does not look attractive at all. There are also people that are genetically inclined to have a lot of loose skin on the neck as they get older, but there is something that you can do about it.

The procedures

There are actually several procedures that are involved in the neck lift surgery. The first is a cervicoplasty, which is a procedure that removes the excess skin from the neck. Then there is a procedure that is called a platysmaplasty, which removes or alters neck muscles. If you have excess fat in the neck as well, not just droopy skin, then you can have some liposuction performed as well to get rid of that. You might also want to get some Botox injections as well in order to improve the fullness of the neck area once the surgeries are completely.

How it works

The procedure in a neck lift usually lasts about two or three hours and if you are getting something else done along with it, like some liposuction, a facelift or other surgeries, then it will take longer, obviously. Also, it is important to note that you must be in good general mental and physical health in order to go through with this procedure.

There are different procedures that can be done, depending on your needs. Usually there are three different things that people focus on – the so-called turkey wattle neck, excess fat, and excess skin.

The turkey wattle is when you have weaken and loose neck muscles and you get that appearance of neck bands, kind of like a turkey has. IN order to correct this, you will be needing platysmaplasty surgery, which is when a surgeon makes an incision under your chin or behind your ears in order to access the neck muscles, and then manipulates them in order to get rid of this effect of a turkey wattle. Sometimes muscle might even be removed from that area. The surgeon then uses permanent sutures to hold the tissue in place when he or she is done.

You might also want to get some Botox injections as well in order to relax the muscles in order to make it appear natural and full like before. These injections are usually done on an outpatient basis and they are usually done in a procedure that takes about 15 minutes to a half hour.
