Cosmetic Surgery Vs. Anti-Wrinkle Creams

Some people choose to age gracefully or not so gracefully, some people choose to try less invasive methods and there are still other show choose to alter what is not appealing through risky procedures. There are two main ways to fight against the aging look in the skin which are anti-wrinkle creams or surgery.

Claiming to be an alternative to surgery are the anti-wrinkle creams, which make the claims to either be a miracle in a jar or a facial dip in the fountain of youth. Are they anything close to these suggestions? Creams are applied topically and are absorbed by the first few layers of the skin. Some are able to get a bit deeper, but still fall short of the actual issue that needs to be resolved. The sagging of skin and the lines created by the sagging and lack of fullness is due to a decrease in collagen as well as damage from the sun’s rays.

The claims made by anti-wrinkles do not stop at comparing their results with surgery but also with botox injections. They have great looking people in their advertisements that we are supposed to believe are the result of a cream smeared on the face. While any cream will add moisture to the skin and help it look better, it again falls short of the results that would occur after a botox injection. Botox actually reaches those layers that are effected by collagen depleted supplies. The injections are placed into the muscle tissues in the face to eliminate sagging and the lines that are caused by them and also fills in the face so the lose skin is tightened and fuller. Creams can on work on the surface layers of the skin and obviously do not work in the area of the facial muscles.

The most effective aspects of anti-wrinkle creams actually does not come from its work on removing wrinkles but by protecting the skin from further damage caused by sun exposure. The damage caused by the UV rays of the suns plays a large reason as to why we have wrinkles in the first place. It is indeed a proven fact that anti-wrinkle creams can do nothing to reverse or stop the aging process and for a company to imply that it is “anti-aging” requires that they place a skin protector in their cream product. Also of interest to the consumer, is that these creams are not required to undergo any form of testing since they are classified as cosmetics. This leads from products that are completely worthless to some that are minimally healthy for the skin.

Anti-wrinkle creams may or may not work for you depending on your stage in the aging process, but still do not expect the miracle or fountain of youth qualities that many claim to have. Many also are specialized for use in a certain area and require others still to work at other points. Anti-wrinkle creams do not come cheap, and considering what you get for the money spent over a product that will be used indefinitely, just how does it compare to surgical avenues. With a carefully selected plastic surgeon, the risk of surgery is reduced greatly and will give you the result you are truly after.
